What Is Canine Parvovirus?
Parvovirus is often referred to as "parvo." It is a highly infectious viral disease that can severely impact your dog’s health, particularly if they're a puppy. It primarily targets the gastrointestinal tract, leading to symptoms that can be quite distressing.
Symptoms:
• Lethargy
• Bloody Diarrhea
• Abdominal Pain
• Vomiting
• Dehydration
• Weakness
• Collapse
• Loss of Appetite

How Is Parvovirus Spread?
If parvovirus is left untreated it can be fatal. It can spread through direct contact with infected dogs through:
• Feces
• Virus contaminated surfaces
• Yards
• Dog parks
• Can be virtually impossible to avoid

How to Prevent the Spread of Parvovirus?
By following the steps below you can help prevent the spread of CPV.
• Isolate your puppy from other dogs (quarantine from other dogs – please talk to you veterinarian regarding timelines)
• Remove feces promptly
• Decontaminate by cleaning and disinfecting areas

Vaccinations are key! The best defense against parvo is vaccination. Talk to your veterinarian about getting your pets all the vaccinations they need to live a longer, happier life.
