Find out why year-round tick prevention for dogs is so important - and why a good dog tick collar is one of the best options around.

Ticks are much more than annoying parasites - they can also cause serious health problems - and, in the case of the paralysis and brown dog ticks, even death. Unfortunately, dogs can come into contact with ticks quite easily and these parasites can be a threat all year long. Often they live in long grasses in parks and bushland and grab onto the coat of passing animals when they brush through the grass. After finding the right spot to bite, ticks can stay attached to their victims for days.
A single adult female paralysis tick can deliver enough toxin to a dog during feeding to cause paralysis and death, and brown dog ticks can transmit serious diseases, including ehrlichiosis, anaplasmosis and babesiosis to your dog. This is why it's incredibly important to stop the tick from biting your dog in the first place.
Why use a dog tick collar?
There are several effective ways to combat ticks, including spot-on treatments and tablets - but these might not always be the best solution for your pet. Tablets or oral tick preventatives require ticks to bite your dog before they are effective, and spot-on treatments must be applied regularly to provide continuous protection. The SerestoTM collar, alternatively, provides 4 months of protection against brown dog ticks and an amazing 8 months against paralysis ticks. The Seresto flea and tick collar is one of the best choices on the market for several reasons:
- It provides long-lasting effectiveness. The Seresto collar is effective against brown dog ticks for 4 months and paralysis ticks for 8 months, which means you don't have to worry about treating your pet frequently.
- They are water-resistant^. Your pet can romp and play outdoors all day long and remain protected when swimming, caught in the rain or following the use of soap-free shampoos during bathing.
- They are odourless. No more unpleasant odours that were associated with older flea and tick collars.
- They provide protection against both ticks and fleas. Seresto flea and tick collars contain two active ingredients (imidacloprid and flumethrin) that are released slowly as a controlled dose into the fatty layer of the skin, remaining effective for 4 months against brown dog ticks and 8 months against paralysis ticks and fleas.
- The ticks don't have to take a blood meal to die, meaning the ingredients repel and kill the tick on contact. This unique feature in tick prevention protects your dog from vector borne diseases that the brown dog tick can transmit to your dog like ehrlichiosis, babesiosis and anaplasmosis.
