Osteoarthritis in dogs

Dogs have a way of making shared moments more meaningful. But osteoarthritis (OA) pain can affect your dog’s mobility and take away from your special moments together.

What is canine OA?

Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common form of arthritis in dogs and is the leading cause of chronic pain1. It is a disease of the joints that gets worse over time2 and can result in loss of joint mobility and lameness, making it harder for your dog to do normal everyday activities.

OA is more common than you might think

Canine OA doesn't just affect elderly, large breeds. In fact, OA often starts at a young age, and can affect dogs of all sizes3.

It’s important to treat OA pain early to help your dog get back to their normal self.

  • Pain relief is a fundamental part of your dog’s OA management plan3,6
  • Treating OA pain early can help your dog stay active, so you can continue to share special moments together7.
  • By stopping the pain caused by OA, your dog will be more comfortable and more able to stay active. This helps to reduce their weight which in turn, reduces the stress put on their joints6.

How to help your dog at home

To help your dog, there are a range of physical and lifestyle changes that you can make at home, which are hugely beneficial in minimising pain, stiffness and further injury of OA.

A diagnosis of OA in your dog might seem like an active future for them is at risk. But working with your vet and starting a good OA management plan early can control pain and help improve your dog’s mobility and strength. An OA management plan is made up of multiple treatment options. Important parts of the plan are pain control, exercise and weight control. Your vet might also discuss additional options and will modify the plan over time, according to your dog’s needs7.

It’s important to give your dog their medicine every day, as instructed by your vet.

GalliprantTM is well tolerated when taken every day10,11.

And that’s good, because OA is a lifelong condition6.
